All Craft Types – Safety Notice

Using any type of Craft at sea can, by their very nature, be unpredictable and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. The purpose of this notice is for you as a PSSC Member to confirm your understanding, and full acceptance of these risks, together with your personal responsibilities for both going afloat and onshore activities. The use of the term Craft in this document applies to any Sailing Boats, RIB’s, Paddle Sports equipment or any other vessel that a Member takes on the water, and which is stored at the Club, or brought to the Club by that Member. By engaging in the use of any type of Craft at PSSC – I acknowledge and accept that:-

1. The responsibility for my decision to go afloat remains with me at all times, as a user of the Craft and, if applicable, as a parent/guardian of people under 18 years of age that are under my supervision. My decision to go on the water will be governed by my level of expertise and the weather/sea conditions at that time.

2. I accept that I assume responsibility at all times for the safety of myself, any person under my supervision, my craft and my other property, whether afloat or ashore.

3. I accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss, due to my own actions, decisions or omissions.

4. I confirm that any craft that I may use is in good order, equipped correctly to go on the water and that I, and any person under my supervision (if applicable), are fit to use that craft.

5. I understand and acknowledge that the only time that PSSC will provide Patrol Boat cover, is during specifically notified events.

6. I accept that the provision of Patrol Boats, and other volunteers by PSSC, does not relieve me of my safety responsibilities.

7. I acknowledge that the provision of Patrol Boats (provided by PSSC) is limited to such assistance that can be practically provided in the circumstances, particularly in extreme weather conditions.

8. I acknowledge that any craft, as identified above, and equipment owned by me that is used and stored at PSSC, is done so entirely at my own risk.

9. I also accept that I must exercise due care and diligence, and do all I reasonably can to prevent loss or damage to my own or other members’ boats/craft/equipment – noting that the storage areas are not secure, and should be locked by me after entering/exiting the Club.

10. I accept it is a condition of PSSC Membership that all active members have appropriate liability insurance. I confirm that proof of the required insurance cover will be made available on request to view as part of my membership application/renewal.
