Sunday 24 August
This was the opportunity to reschedule our regstta. With the sun shining and the wind in the west gusting 4 to 5 we opted for a long distance race. There was a serious swell running which became obvious as the boats approched the gwinges. Running down towards Cannis was hairy as Mike found out when he took off the back of a swell and pitchpoled resulting in his being thrown right though his mainsail ending his race!!

Tuesday 19 August
Sun and wind - a welcome combination this year. It was blowing from the west a gusty force 4 to 6. Clive volunteered to rescue duties and set a nice big course and a line with loads of port bias. In race one Mike pulled out a big lead only to lose most of it heading towards France with a stuck spinnaker. Alan finished close enough to beat him on handicap. Roger came in third. James Sharratt out for his first race found that cleating the main on a beat leads to a capsize!!. In Race two Mike manag [>>>]

| Club Champion Helm (or the PSSC Olympics!!)
We assembled for our serious pico racing on what was a nice day by this years standard. The wind was a Force 4 Westerly in the shelter of the bay. It was a good 5 plus further out to sea and building. A short course was set and the heats got under way. The heats resulted in selection for the 5 boat medal race. Mike and Alan who won all their heats seemed favourites. As the race got under way Mike sailed himself into a hole and ended up in 4t [>>>] |

Sunday 10 August
| There was a strong wind warning in place from the Met Office today, they were not wrong!! The wind was WSW gusting from 4 up through 7. Rescues started just after people left the beach with Steve Pitcher capsizing. The start of race 1 was stopped as Ryan Dixon fell off his dads boat and had to be recovered by the rescue boat. Capsizing continued with Clive going in on race two. Mark Betambeau on the Hobie followed suit a short while later.
After lunch a reduced fleet took to the water. In t [>>>] |

Club Fete - Thursday 7 Aug
A big thankyou to those members who turned up to help with the fete which was very successful and raised much needed funds for our club. With more help we could have made a lot more money helping to fund our redevelopment and keep membership prices low.

Tuesday 5 August
August this year differs fron February by the temperature of the rain. Despite dire weather we still had plenty of keen sailors this evening with 8 boats taking to the water. Winf was SW 3 and the sea was lumpy, Vis was limited so mike acting as OOD set a short course but bunged the upwind mark in the turbulance off penair point. Alan Gregory seems to have fitted motors to his Dart - lookslike s@*t but goes quick. He was chased around the first race by Roger and Sally but held them off for a win [>>>]

Sunday 3 August 2008
An overcast day but at least there was some wind to play with blowing from the west. Race 1 saw 5 boats starting as the wind began to mess around. Mike pulled out a good lead but suffered on the final downwind leg when the shift allowed Alan to sail directly to the finish. Clive Pryor claimed third place. We decided to finish for an early lunch to see what the afternoon would bring. Thee more boats joined us for the afternoon racing. Race 2 kicked of with a force 3 wind, however it was clear tha [>>>]

Tuesday 29 July
The weather was terrible all day wet and blowing up to force 7 SW. There was a big swell on the beach and this put us off racing. Several were patient however and made the most of an unexpected weather window as the sun came out and the wind dropped off. 6 boats got out most staying inside the windline at Chapel Point. Boyond the point it was still blowing a force 6.

Sunday 27 July
This was a blistering hot day, however there was no wind to effectively race. This day is traditionally quiet after Charlestown Regatta. We did get 6 boats out for a fun sail as the sea breeze picked up a bit. It didn't last though after a couple of hours it faded away to nothing.

Saturday 26 July
The morning view did not bode well for Charlestown Regatta, thick fog and no wind at all. The forecast promised a good afternoon and the sun started to break through before lunch. A gentle breeze settled in as we launched 12 cats for the passage to Charlestown accompanied by two ribs. A triangle was set as close as possible to the harbour with the Earl of Pembroke nicly anchored on the downwind leg. The WSW picked up to a force 3 as we were about to start. We were joined by 2 boats from Porthpea [>>>]

Tuesday 22 July
A glorious summer evening greeted the keen sailors with a NW 3. Those of us in the know realised that the wind was alway going to fade! Nine boats put to sea for a standard course. Wendy sailing with Sally and Mike got the best starts closely followed by Roger. Tactics were the order of the day with the fading wind. Mike limped over the line and waited for Wendy and Sally who were fending off Richard and Peter on their transom. In the end Mike beat Wendy by 7 Seconds on handicap to claim honours [>>>]

Sunday 19 July
The wind machine was well and truly on today with great sunshine to complement it. The wind was a very gusty 4 to 5 NNW in the morning. 7 boats were racing today. Roger sailing with Squeek on his boat for the first time this year won the first race closely followed by Alan then Mike Vouyzey. Race 2 saw Alan winning with Rog in Second and Mike 3rd. After lunch the wind turned up a notch gusting to Force 6. Alan had crewed up with Simon to create the Lard Express and win both races. Mike managed t [>>>]

Tuesday 15 July
With many of the usual Tuesday crowd away we anticipated a thin turn out. However we did still manage to get 5 boats on the water. The wind was set in the NW which is gusty in Pentewan and blowing around a good 4. Mike in the Shadow was unable to shake off Richard and Janet who beat him on handicap. Wendy and Sabine claimed third spot. Simon managed to capsize 200 metres after the start and finish 4th. In race 2 Mike was determined to shake Richard of his tail and changed tactics to climb upwind [>>>]

| Good weather and a gentle breeze enticed 9 cats out to race today. The breeze was set in the west swinging WNW to SW. Race one saw Mike pull out a big lead on the water only to be beaten by Alan on handicap. Third place was claimed by Clive sailing with daughter Sam. In race two the breeze picked up a tad delivering better racing. Alan sailed into the beach off a port start and beat Mike to the first mark. | PSSC Regatta Report |
Yes the last race was on 17 June the weather has been pants lately. The regatta was not exempt from this years North Atlantic invesion. Saturday was supposed to be a long distance race. We were greeted with force 10 winds and pississtant rain. Clearly sailing was not on the agenda. Sunday's forecast was for a 6 to 7 bft and gusts to 8. Faced with this I could not put a regatta on so postponed it. Three boat went out for a blast so we put on some safety cover and ran some fun races to Gwineas [>>>]

Tuesday 17 June
Proper weather! A SW 3-4 and a slight swell. Rob set a big course for the 5 Boats racing. With the wind blowing over the cliff the beat was challenging. Mike in the Shadow was fully powered up and managed to win both races. Wendy sailing with new member Jo was right behind him for two seconds. With the sun shining it was a great evening sail. Apres ski was held in the lounge of the Ship Inn.

Sunday 15 June
No wind and rain greated sailers on Sunday morning so racing was postponed. Some went home excited by the prospect of DIY! Those that stayed decided to divert the course of the river while waiting for the wind which kicked in at lunchtime. Four boats launched for a fun sail in a force 4 SW breeze. A beat out to the Gwineas then a downwind sleigh ride past Fowey. After Turning for home the wind decided to stop, as we were deciding which pub in Fowey to make for the wind kicked back in from the No [>>>]

Tuesday 10 June
On arrival at Pentewan it was perfect with a NNW force 4, sun and flat sea. However on the start the wind destabilised and gusted from force 1 to 4 and was veering through 60 degrees. This meant that getting to the windward mark off Black head wasa challenge for all. Wendy and Sally sailed past Mike who was stuck in a hole to win the first race even without handicap! In the Second race luck went Mike way when he picked up a great gust downwind and pulled out an unassilible lead.

Sunday 8th June
On a really good day Pentewan can be just like the Caribbean. Well today was one of these days. Blue skys, mid twenties, force 3-4 NW and flat azure sea. A long distance race was held in the morning with Fowey and Par in the itinery. In the afternoon we held two back to back races off the beach. The wind was very gusty and variable resulting in challenging conditions for racing. Most stayed out after racing for a blast to the Gwineas. The BBQ was cranked up during the evening and some very tired [>>>]

Force 3 to 4 Westerly, flat sea, sunshine. Fantastic! 5 boats sailed in two great races. Mike relished the conditions and managed two wins in the Shadow. Wendy Sailing with miles clocked up two second places. Mike Vouyzey helming with Roger Crewing got a third in Race one while Clive sailing with Sabine got the third spot in race 3. Mike Dixon clocked up his first capsize in race 1. Apres sail was held in the Ship Inn.

Tuesday 27 May
I managed to finish work early and get to the beach at 5pm seeing that the forecast was for the wind to drop fast during the evening. Alan arrived just after me and we launched for a blast. The wind was SE (no change there!) augmented by a sea breeze to a force 4 gusting 5 with a great swell. Mike Dixon and Clive launched later with Janet and Sabine crewing. The wind as predicted died rapidly but it was great while it lasted.

Sunday 25 May
The run of easterlies continue and with the weather forecast appalling a reduced fleet of 4 boats waited for the tide to drop enough to safely launch through the surf. Winds were dying so Clive set a small course. the first race was a tight finish with Richard Armstrong and Chloe Webb beating mike by 2 seconds on handicap. In race 2 the wind really dropped of and with the residual swell the sailing was challenging. Mike pulled out a big lead to finish well ahead of Richard and Chloe the remainin [>>>]

Sunday 18 May
I can't beleive it winds in the East for over 2 weeks now. However it was a fine force four and sunny so 7 boats were tempted to launch over the surf for a lumpy race. First casualty of the day was Sally who fealt sick in the Rib so came ashore. I left the Shadow on the beach and replaced her. A port course was set with the start close to the beach. The swell was really running now at 2 metres so challenging conditions for the cats especially when tacking. Alan pipped Richard Armstrong by 4 [>>>]

Sailing was suspended today as most of us headed up to Plymouth to support the start of the Transat. We arrived as the last of the competing boats exited through the Sutton lock to the Sound. We boarded Simon's boat 007 and powered out to inspect the assembling fleet. As the boats started we joined the escort of spectator boats estimated at 1000 and followed the fleet out of the sound towards the Eddystone. Everyone was impressed by the the speed of these yachts in what was only a very ligh [>>>]

A glorious day however only on slight hitch - the wind was SE and the tide was on a spring high so the dumping sea and restricted launch made sailing impracticable. We retired to the Ship Inn for a debrief session instead.

Sunday 4 May
Another one of those strange days with a WNW forecast but a SE wind blowing on the water. A long distance race was scheduled so we launched with a course out to Cannis then to SWW mark and onto the Gwineas. The wind dropped on the start leaving us all rafting. A SSE breeze then kicked in and we were off with the visibility closing down there was some guesswork in the course sailed. Mike with his spinnaker up was able to trapeze down towards Cannis and got roud it before the wind dropped off agai [>>>]

Sunday 27 April
The day did not start to well with fog and rain, however the forecast was for a nice day and WNW breeze. It started to clear as we launched, however the wind went SE and light before going cyclonic. The first race was therefore a lottery with places changing as often as the breeze. The WNW arrived at the end of the race and push Richard Armstrong over for a win. Race 2 Saw the breeze starting to build but still flakey, alan Gregory took honours. During lunch the breeze settled and increased, hum [>>>]

| A massive shower held sailing up, however the sun soon came out and the wind quickly built up to a gusty 4 NW for the two morning races. After lunch we decided to put on a long distance race with the course out to Gwineas then SWW mark then Cannis and back to the club. The wind freshed turning to the North and gusting up to the top of Force 5. I managed to strech out a good lead before pitchpoling just before Cannis. | Icebreaker 30 March |
The weather after an atrocious Saturday developed into a stunning Sunday. Force 3 to 4 South Westerly and fantastic sunshine. The only downside was a giant surf left over from the storm. Racing was delayed afted P1 suffered a battery failure and was swamped in the surf. We did get out for two races with Honours even between Richard Armstrong and myself. It was that warm i wore a shortie!!

Easter Egg - Day 2
Too much wind turnd into too liitle wind and rain. The forecast said the afternon would be great so Richard Sabine and myself launched in no wind and drifted around the first race until the breeze as forcast kicked in towards the end of the race. Two further races were held in sunshine and a force 3 - 4 breeze.

No sailing today due to wing blowing above force 8 offshore. We did however finish off the wall in the boat park, fixed the tractor and got P1 ready for tomorrow when the forecast is better. I bought the beers for my birthday as promised. We all had a roast in the Ship, well deserved.
